England's new Captain: Ben Stokes
Ben Stokes could be England new Captain in the first test
against west indies. After the new dates for the tour against west indies has
announced and the possible clash with the birth of second Child Joe Root with
draw himself for the first test.
The England and Wales Cricket Board on Tuesday revealed the
dates and venues for the series next month with a series opener at Hampshire’s
Ageas Bowl from July 8 and the second and third Tests played at Old Trafford
from July 16 and 24 respectively.
Test captain Root returned to training at Trent Bridge on
Monday in anticipation of the series but with his wife, Carrie set to give
birth in just a few weeks, he might end up watching cricket’s big return from
the labour ward.
The England captain said on Tuesday that he would attend the
birth come what may, with Stokes in line to take over. Root has no doubt the
star all-rounder would take with the extra burden that comes with the
captaincy.
“I think if Ben was captain he would be fantastic,” said
Root
“One of his great qualities as vice-captain and as a leader
is he sets the example, the way he goes about his training, how he wants to
bowl in difficult circumstances, the way he stands up in different scenarios
with the bat. He drags people with him and gets the best out of the players
around him.
Now, Stokes has shown his commitment to lead the team in the
absence of Root.
“I understand where Joe is taking the team and how he wants
to lead it. So although I’ll make my own calls on the field and do the job as I
see it as the game evolves, everything else will very much be the same as when
Joe is there,” he added.
Stokes'll be a good captain
