Sneak Peak: Pak vs. Ind WC 92

National Flags of Pakistan and India

Match was held on 4th March,1992 in Sydney Cricket Ground. The beautiful Adelaide weather was welcoming both nations with open hearts, the clouds scattering among the vast fields of the crystal blue sky. Let's take a sneak peak into the past... India wins the toss and elects to bat first. Umpires are Peter McConoll and David Shepherd. Match referee is Ted Wykes. Both teams are walking into the ground with complete satisfaction and hope of wining on their faces. Jadeja walks into the stadium and smashes 46 runs on the scoreboard, the Indian batsmen not being able to stay on the wicket, and there comes Tendulkar with a banger of a score on the score board.

Top Scorers of Indian Team were A. Jadeja scoring 46 runs off 77 balls with a strike rate of 59.74, Waseem Haider claimed his wicket and Sachin Tendulkar scoring 54 off 62 balls with strike rate of 87.09, he stood not out. top Scorers for Pakistan were Aamer  Sohail scoring 62 off 95 balls with a strike rate of 65.26, surprisingly Tendulkar claimed his wicket and Javed Miandad scoring 40 off 110 balls with a stirke rate of 36.36, he was clean bowled by Srinath. India's net total was 216/7 with 14 extras, net total of Pakistan was 173 all out with 22 extras.

This match is of importance because this was the first ever match between Pakistan and India in a World Cup, the match overs were reduced to 49 overs each due to slow over rate by Pakistan.

From here the cricket rivalry of India and Pakistan started, and from the evolution of cricket the spirit of sports has always been seen lacking on both sides that we have witnessed several times. Having the same culture and being neighbors for far too long both sides have always tried to ditch down the other and when it is about the match between Pakistan and India, it is not just the 11 players but the whole population of both the countries that not only witnesses the match but also comes down to the field with their respective teams.

The two sides have played a total of 199 times. Pakistan have won 86 matches compared to India's 70 victories. In Test matches and ODIs Pakistan has won more matches than India, although India has won six of the eight T20 International between the two sides.
